We Won the Third Place on Unicredit’s Moj Zaba Start Competition with Dracula

Each year a branch of UniCredit bank in Croatia – Zagrebačka banka – holds a business project competition in three categories: Entrepreneurship, Culture and Science, and Society. Business projects from all over the country are submitted for evaulation and the stakes are high, because one million Croatian kuna (around 135.000 EUR) is split between the winners. Over 400 projects were submitted, only 30 get in the finals, and about 9-12 can win, because there are top three places voted by the jury and a vote of public for each category.

Easy-peasy!

This competition was a ‘high risk, high gain’ situation for us, because we had to publicly reveal our next book, something that we were developing in complete secrecy. The book is the one and only – the legendary Dracula – and we had plans to make it truly special by using phosphorescent ink, so the book could be sensitive to light, just like the main antagonist. In other words, the covers and the illustrations would glow in the dark!

Spooky

Good news! The risk paid off because those plans just received a boost – we won the third place and secured funds in the amount of 80.000 Croatian kuna (a bit over 10.000 EUR) that will go straight into development of this fine press edition.
