2024 was marked by delays—there’s no way around that fact. Several factors contributed to this unfortunate outcome, such as the repeated foil stamping required for the Essential Edition of Catch-22. However, the biggest challenge was undoubtedly our lack of a dedicated production space.
Back in 2022, we acquired an old, derelict building in Zagreb. The property housed a variety of spaces, including an auto workshop, a dental X-ray office, and several garages. While it was relatively inexpensive, it was in desperate need of renovations. But more importantly, it had immense potential. Our vision was to create a space that could fully support our endless pursuit of the extraordinary.
To be fair, the delays of 2024 weren’t caused by the building itself but rather by the fact that we weren’t in it yet. As work on the building began—and there was a lot to do—we relocated to a temporary space, sharing it with a small print shop. It quickly became clear that the cramped conditions were severely hindering our productivity.
Recognising the impact this was having, and with our own space still under construction, we decided to move again. In the summer of this year, we packed up Heidi (our beloved printing press) and all our equipment and relocated to a new, slightly larger shared space with another print shop. While this setup was still far from ideal, it allowed us to regain some momentum and begin catching up on delayed projects.
Now, our own space is finally progressing at a steady pace, and we hope to move in soon, even if it’s not fully completed. The additional space—and the ability to install tools to streamline our work—will make a significant difference. Originally, we planned to move after completing 2001: A Space Odyssey (or at least shipping most copies), but circumstances have changed.
Our current landlord has opted to lease the entire space to another company, and knowing that we plan to move into our own space, they’ve asked us to vacate sooner rather than later. While this is completely understandable from their perspective, it will unfortunately affect the production timeline of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
We’re currently in the middle of printing, but the move will require us to stop, pack everything, relocate, and then unpack and set up Heidi again before we can resume. I deeply regret this disruption and I am truly sorry and will do everything possible to make it up to you with superb quality of the books.
On a more positive note, Sherlock Holmes should remain unaffected, as we accounted for this move when scheduling its production. While this second move within a year is unavoidable, it marks the final step toward having our own dedicated space. Once settled, we anticipate improved production times—perhaps even reaching the promised land of completing production ahead of release, minimising the time between order and delivery. This remains our ultimate goal.
I had originally planned a big reveal once renovations were complete, but I now believe that steady updates on our progress would have been more transparent. While a sudden reveal would have been exciting, regular updates would have provided greater clarity along the way. Regardless, I want to sincerely thank you for joining us on this endless pursuit of the extraordinary and for your unwavering patience and support throughout this journey.
On the upside, the monoliths have finally returned from space—and to us! It’s been a long road to get them up there, including one false start where we mistakenly believed they were already onboard a rocket. That time, we even recorded ourselves excitedly watching the launch, only to find out a few days later that our monoliths weren’t actually inside the rocket. One day, I plan to share that video—it’s too funny not to!
To make the story even better, on their return trip to Croatia, the monoliths were mistakenly routed from Texas to a sorting centre in Honolulu, before being sent back to Texas and eventually making their way home. They’ve certainly racked up enough frequent flier miles, both in space and here on Earth.
The day they’re finally shipped to their proud owners will undoubtedly be one of the happiest days of my life. Thank you again for being part of this incredible journey—it truly means the world to us!
