The HAL Edition is a letterpress printed edition of 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke and it is limited to only 26 lettered and signed copies.
Bound in the finest black goatskin leather, its design is inspired by HAL 9000 computer. It comes in a unique glittery tray case, representing countless stars in the vacuum of space as the Discovery One ventures to its final destination.
This edition is currently available for preorder. We expect the production to finish by the end of Q2 Q3 2024. It will be shipped via DHL Express in an insured package upon completion.

The Lettered Edition of 2001: A Space Odyssey, also known as the HAL Edition, is limited to only 26 lettered and signed copies.
All four editions share the same creative concept, but each is dedicated to one of the four acts of the story. The concept is based on humanity’s voyage over the millennia; all the way from living in caves to travelling into the unknown, occasionally interacting with intelligences other than our own. Each of these interactions has a huge impact on humanity. That is why all six illustrations are focused on such interactions, whether with otherworldly intelligences or own creations (but all of them artificial), which influence the humanity for better or for worse. The task of creating these challenging illustrations was entrusted to the extremely talented Anna Šagadin.
The introduction was written by Daniela Jović from Spacemanic, who played a vital role in turning our idea of monoliths from space into a reality. Her experience working in the space sector and with this project give a unique perspective on 2001: A Space Odyssey.
This edition is focused on the 3rd act of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the humanity’s venture into deep space in search of the destination of TMA-1 signal. The case is bound in premium glittery black book cloth, representing the countless stars as seen in the vacuum of space. Featured on the front is Discovery One, shaped from finest black goatskin, featuring detailed embossing and foil stamping (not seen in the prototype photos, check the video). The ship “cockpit” is a cutout so HAL’s “eye” can be seen lurking from the inside. Once opened, the case features intricate lining from red and black plush, with laser-engraved HAL’s memory room (not seen in the prototype photos, check the video), on the lid, featuring white goatskin leather in the middle.
The book is bound in the finest black goatskin leather, featuring silver foil blocking on the front and the spine. More importantly it also feature’s HAL’s lens with holographic foil below, giving it a menacing look. Once the book is opened, there are handmade marbled endpapers inspired by the colours of HAL’s room. The headbands and tailbands are hand-sewn.
The bookmark is two-sided, inspired by the voyage through the monolith. It, therefore, represents the monolith reduced to two dimensions with the help of holographic foil blocking. The design of all elements featured on the case and the bookmark was done by the exceptional designer and our long-time collaborator Damir Mazinjanin.
The text will be printed letterpress on our Heidelberg Cylinder using 100% cotton mould-made Hahnemühle William Turner paper which was customised to our specifications. The six colour illustrations will be printed giclée.
As previously mentioned, the whole run is limited to only 26 lettered and signed copies, with only a few additional publisher’s copies for own own archive that will never be for sale.
