Bound in a special brown paper with a texture reminiscent of earth and stone, symbolizing the dawn of the Stone Age and the ape-men’s life in caves, this edition captures the essence of early human history. The front cover features an illustration of a femur bone shaped into a weapon. Printed on Savile Row paper, containing 20% cotton and 20% fibre, this edition ensures an enjoyable reading experience. As you flip through the letterpress-printed pages, you’ll discover detailed offset-printed illustrations. It comes with a monolith-inspired bookmark and is limited to just 150 copies.

MATCHING SLIPCASE

The matching slipcase, crafted from the same materials as the book, features detailed foiled stamping on both the front and the spine. It is designed to give you the choice of displaying the book facing outwards or the spine of the case outward. The former option showcases the book, while the latter protects it from dust exposure and still identifies which book it contains. If you peek inside, you’ll discover a hidden message.

TYCHO EDITION

Bound in the finest indigo-blue goatskin leather, this edition exudes elegance and craftsmanship. The front cover features an intricate grid view of the Tycho crater, hot-stamped in vibrant red foil. Inside, you’ll be welcomed by handmade marbled endpapers, while the text is printed letterpress on 100% cotton, mould-made Hahnemühle Printmaking paper, custom crafted to our specifications. As you turn the letterpress-printed pages, complete with two-tone titles, you’ll enjoy the detailed offset-printed illustrations. This edition includes a monolith-inspired bookmark and is limited to just 200 copies.

The ultimate edition of 2001: A Space Odyssey, designed for the most discerning collectors. Bradel-bound in the finest goatskin leather and layered marbled glass, it features a small cutout to securely cradle a miniature recreation of the monolith—launched to space and back aboard Blue Origin’s N27 mission—held in place by hidden magnets. Inside, you’ll be greeted by exquisite handmade marbled endpapers, while the text is printed letterpress on 100% cotton, handmade paper custom-crafted by Gangolf Ulbricht exclusively for this edition. As you turn the meticulously letterpress-printed pages, complete with two-tone titles, you’ll marvel at the detailed giclée-printed illustrations. "MY GOD, IT'S FULL OF STARS"

The case perfectly encapsulates the pivotal events that unfold on Saturn’s moon Iapetus, leaving the monolith from the book’s front cover prominently revealed. Bound in the finest goatskin leather, the case features the moon’s surface marbled in exquisite white lambskin leather, with extensive foil stamping that brings every detail to life. When opened, the case expands into a 2.20:1 aspect ratio—the same one Kubrick used for the film. The interior is lined with a marbled pattern that matches the book’s cover design. Hidden beneath the case is an art portfolio, adding another layer of discovery to this extraordinary edition.

Each Edition a Story of Its Own

All four editions share the same creative concept, with each dedicated to one of the four key locales in the story. The concept revolves around humanity’s journey through the millennia—from living in caves to venturing into the unknown reaches of the universe, occasionally encountering intelligences beyond our own. Each of these encounters profoundly impacts humanity.

THE EXQUISITE FEEL OF LETTERPRESS

Printed on four different papers to further highlight the distinction between the editions. The Essential Edition is printed on Fedrigoni Savile Row paper. The numbered and lettered editions feature Hahnemühle mould-made paper: Printmaking for the numbered edition and William Turner for the lettered edition. Finally, the Roman Numeral Edition boasts handmade paper crafted by the legendary papermaker Gangolf Ulbricht.

Text for a ll four editions are printed letterpress on our Heidelberg Cylinder. No other printing technique can match the charm of letterpress. We always aim to strike the perfect balance between a gentle ‘kiss’ and a pronounced ‘bite,’ ensuring the impression is tactile yet never overpowering on the paper.

EPIC ILLUSTRATIONS

All six illustrations focus on pivotal interactions, whether with otherworldly intelligences or humanity’s own creations—artificial yet transformative—shaping our destiny for better or worse. The creation of these challenging illustrations was entrusted to the exceptionally talented Tomislav Tikulin.

All illustrations for our Roman Numeral Edition and Lettered Edition will be printed using giclée on our Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-4600, which features twelve distinct toners to ensure picture-perfect colour reproduction. The Numbered and Essential Editions, on the other hand, will feature offset-printed illustrations.
