The Essential Edition is a letterpress printed edition of 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke and it is limited to just 400 150 copies.
Bound in a special brown paper with texture akin to ground and rocks, meant to signify the dawn of the Stone Age and ape-men’s life in caves. The front cover features an illustration of a femur bone shaped into a weapon. The book comes in a slipcase bound in the same material as the book.
This edition is currently available for preorder. We expect the production to finish by the end of Q4 2024 Q1 2025. It will be shipped via DHL Express in an insured package upon completion.

The Essential Edition of 2001: A Space Odyssey, also known as the Cave Edition, is limited to just 400 150 copies.
All four editions share the same creative concept, with each dedicated to one of the four key locales in the story. The concept revolves around humanity’s journey through the millennia—from living in caves to venturing into the unknown reaches of the universe, occasionally encountering intelligences beyond our own. Each of these encounters profoundly impacts humanity. This theme is why all six illustrations focus on these pivotal interactions, whether with otherworldly intelligences or humanity’s own creations—artificial yet transformative—shaping our destiny for better or worse. The creation of these challenging illustrations was entrusted to the exceptionally talented Tomislav Tikulin.
The introduction was written by Daniela Jović from Spacemanic, who played a vital role in turning our idea of monoliths from space into a reality. Her experience working in the space sector and with this project give a unique perspective on 2001: A Space Odyssey.
This edition is focused on the 1st act of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the dawn of man. The book and the slipcase are bound in special Corvon® Rust paper (aptly named “Clay”) with a texture akin to ground and rocks. This material was chosen specifically as a memento to the dawn of the Stone Age and ape-men’s life in caves at the time. Both the book and the slipcase feature off-white foil blocking on the front and the spine. The front cover of the book features an illustration of a femur bone shaped into a weapon; mankind’s first “tool”. The endpapers were inspired by the various geometric shapes that the monolith projected to ape-men as it nudged their evolution.
The bookmark is two-sided, inspired by the voyage through the monolith. It, therefore, represents the monolith reduced to two dimensions with the help of holographic foil blocking. The design of all elements featured on the case, the book, and the bookmark was done by the exceptional designer and our long-time collaborator Damir Mazinjanin.
The text will be printed letterpress on our Heidelberg Cylinder using Fedrigoni Savile Row paper, along with six colour illustrations.
The whole run will have 400 150 copies, with a couple of additional publisher’s copies for the key participants of the project that will never be for sale.
