As many of you know, letterpress printing takes time. Since we’re still relatively new to it, we take things slowly to ensure everything is done correctly. While we’re reaching the point where the process will become faster, there is a pleasant side effect—extra time to iterate!
During this process, we had the opportunity to test various methods and materials, as we always do before going into full production. However, since we had extra time, it allowed us to experiment a bit more with each edition (see if you can spot one of the “upgrades” in the Mission Edition). The Bomber Edition received the most attention, though. I don’t think we’ve ever made such a significant leap from the announced edition, but I couldn’t be happier with it. We essentially went from this (which was still pretty impressive, in my opinion):
To this (which is—again, just an opinion—immensely cooler):
I won’t go on too long about all the little details and upgrades—you can read about those on the Bomber Edition webshop page—but I will highlight a few interesting points.
While I do enjoy seeing nice foil stamping on the spine of a book, having such a thick edition allowed for (and even invited, I’d say) some experimentation. And what does every bomber (jacket) need? More patches, badges, and zippers, just to name a few.
I could go on, but the video below does a much better job of showcasing the magic that happens when we give ourselves the time to experiment. There are still a few copies remaining on the webshop if you’d like to preorder. And, as I mentioned before, the price remains the same—the upgrades are on us!
Fortunately, these upgrades won’t affect production time much. All editions are already printed, sewn, and rounded, so it’s just a matter of binding and assembling the cases. It will definitely be worth the wait.
